One could major in E-marketing if he want. Even I too am about to start my own SEO firm soon...just in the process of purchasing domain... O.k. even though E-marketing is a thing of the future as you have said. The people who are big in this industry have just tried, they really don't have a degree but if you really want to go for it do it. It is an industry in which without a whole load of work you can make big bucks provided you know how to.

I think it is a slightly different scenario. The visitor is already wanting the product or wanting to solve his problem - that is why he is actively searching.

You don't have to create the want here (on the landing page). You have to have persuasive copy that appeals to the emotional side of the visitor and convinces him that you are right person to fulfil his want.

Remember people buy on emotion and justify with logic. So your copy should start with fulfilling the emotional want and then provide facts and figures so that he can justify his purchase to himself and his bosses or superiors.

Just my 2 cents :)
